The Burleigh Heads Boardriders Club 22nd annual Single Fin Festival presented by Billabong and Vonu celebrates the surfing, surfboards and the times of the single fin surfboard era. This unique event sees surfers competing on single fin surfboards, made pre-1985. Surfers who have competed in past events include Parko, Taj Burrow, Rasta & Mick Fanning, this year Hawaiian legend Shane Dorian is a confirmed guest speaker at the charity sports luncheon as well as competing in the event.

2019 Single Fin Classic

Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th January 2019

Pako on the way to the win in 2017

Joel Parkinson is confirmed 100% as a starter at the event, after winning in 2017 and now retired, he is eligible to compete again this year and is stoked to be surfing in the event.

“As much as I am looking forward to hanging up the contest jersey to retire, I can’t wait to put the singlet back on for the Single Fin”

This years line-up is incredible with Shane Dorian, Taj Burrow, and a field of red hot locals, Parko is keen to get amongst it;

“Possibly the toughest field ever, if the waves are good, it will be the most exciting event ever. Taj will be frothing out to get in the water, he will be looking to defend his title and will be the one to watch”

Parko will be on familiar equipment, a 1980’s Alan Byrne 6 channel single fin.

“My good mate Clay is lending me the same board that I won the event on in 2017, that he has kept it on ice for me and it’s ready to go. I want to win another trophy, as I gave the last one to Clay as a thank you in 2017”

There are very limited entries available, and what a chance it is to be able to surf Burleigh Point with only six surfers in the water, and to maybe surf a heat with some of surfing’s royalty.

There will be a Junior and Women’s division as well as a legends heat featuring Tom Carroll, Cheyne Horan, Mark Ochiluppo,Brad Gerlach, and local and 1980 Stubbies Classic Champion, Peter Harris.

It is looking like it will be the event of the year at Burleigh Point on January 5-6th, with surfing, food, fun entertainment and classic single fin surfboards.
