Gold Coast, Queensland Saturday 12th September, 2015 – Duranbah Beach played host to the second event of the Queensland Junior Titles Series with clean one metre waves on offer for competitors in day one of competition.
Top seed Quinn Bruce (Coolangatta, Qld) made light work of his opening round heat against Sam Littlechild (Mermaid Beach, Qld) and Liam Kelly (Wooloowin, Qld), defeating both respectively after scoring the highest heat total in day one of competition. Both Quinn and Sam will progress straight through to the Under 18 Boys semi-final scheduled to run tomorrow afternoon where they will shape up to the likes of Toby Mossop (Burleigh Heads, QLD), Aaron Kelly (Sunshine Beach, QLD) and Ethan Ewing (Point Lookout, QLD) to name a few.
Closely followed by the Under 18 boys was round one of the Under 16 boys with Dextar Muskins (Tweed Heads, NSW) up against Kalani Wulf (Pacific Paradise, Qld) and Cooper Davies (Noosa Heads, Qld) in the opening round heat. In the end, Dextar took a clear lead over his fellow counterparts who needed next to a perfect score to take back the lead.
In the Under 16’s boys, Maddy Job (Burleigh Heads, Qld) posted one of the highest heat totals displaying a high level of dynamic and consistent surfing from start to finish of his heat. Kila Hatchett (Currumbin Waters, Qld) and Darcy Littlechild (Broadbeach Waters, Qld) took second and third place respectively with Kila joining Maddy where they will move through to tomorrow’s Under 16 Boys quarter-final.
Heat two of the Under 18 girls division saw an upset in the water as Holly-Sue Coffey (Coolangatta, Qld) scored an 8.5 score (out of a possible 10) for her first wave of the heat to narrowly defeat event one runner-up Lucy Callister (Palm Beach, Qld), relegating fellow counterparts Laura Poncini (Moffat Beach, QLD) and Ebony Wilson (Elanora, QLD) into third and fourth respectively.
The coveted competition will also see the under 18 division junior surfers compete for a wildcard into the World Surf League (WSL) 2016 Quiksilver and Roxy Pro’s trials. Queensland’s top Under 18 Male and Female State Champions will each receive a wildcard to surf in the trials event, moving one step further to compete against the world’s best professional surfers at the 2016 Quiksilver and Roxy Pro at Snapper Rocks.
As added value to the Queensland Junior Titles, Jolyn Australia will be giving away some epic prizes to some very lucky female junior surfers.
