In marginal conditions, bordering barley surfable, Western Australian former World Tour Surfer, Taj Burrow took out the 21st Burleigh Boardriders Single Fin Classic. A crowd of over 6,000 people watch competitors in Open, Womens, and Junior Divisions negotiate the dreaded rocks of Burleigh Point, showing incredible skills in the tiny surf.

Burrow opened his account with one of the best waves of the event scoring a perfect 10 point ride from the judges, wrapping up the victory with his second and only other ride late in the 20 minute final.

“To win this event today is unreal. I had such a good time, there were no waves and it was great!” said an ecstatic Burrow, “I want to come back and surf it with real waves, then it will be the best event I have ever surfed”

“I love coming to Burleigh Heads and catching up with all my mates”, Burrow feeling at home at the event, “Burleigh is one of the best perches in the world, to sit up on there taking it in with my mates, is the best thing ever.

Burrow won from former World Tour Surfer, Mitch Crews, with Sunshine Coast surfer, Jack Lewis taking 3rd place.

It was Western Australian domination with renown Women’s big wave surfer, Felicity Palmenteer winning the Women’s Division from fellow World Tour surfer Isobella Nichols. Palmateer recently relocated to the Gold Coast from Western Australia, and is a member of the Burleigh Boardriders, stoked to win at her new home.

The Junior Division was won by last years winner, and Burleigh Boardrider, Maddy Job, the current Burleigh Boardriders Club Champion gave a dominant dispelay of single fin surfing over his rivals to win the title for the second year in a row.

Commentator and Burleigh stalwart, Dwayne Harris won the Vonu Lager award for the best traditional single fin surfer. Harris won a Wayne Dean Neal Purchase Junior shaped 7’3” single fin and a years supply of Vonu Lager.

Once again the Burleigh Boardriders Single Fin Festival has lived up to its reputation of the best weekend of the year, with fun, great surfing, good times, and live music. Overall an awesome community event.
