Sunshine Coast, Queensland – Sunday 11th June, 2011: NOAH Lane (Burleigh Heads / Rainbow Beach, Qld) today clinched his maiden Queensland Championship Circuit (QCC) crown after finishing equal fifth at the Chiko Sunshine Coast Pro presented by Coolum and Alex Surf.

The result was enough for Lane to secure the prestigious Queensland Open Men’s surfing title and in doing so, book a spot in the trials of the 2012 ASP Quiksilver Pro on the Gold Coast.

Coolum Beach (Sunshine Coast, Queensland) provided the setting for the fourth and final event of the 2011 QCC series, with competitors’ small wave skills being tested in the 0.5-1m beach break conditions.

Billed as a showdown between Lane and Clint Kimmins (Snapper Rocks, Qld), the competition lived up to all the pre-event hype, producing yet another nail-biting finish to the Queensland Championship Circuit with the winner based on a competitors best three-of-four series results.

However, in the end, Lane edged out Kimmins by 140 ratings points (2610 to 2470) in the overall series after both competitors bowed out in the semi-final round.

“After I lost in my semi-final, there was still a chance that Clint (Kimmins) could take the title, but after he bowed out as well, I was so relieved to have won the series,” Lane said.

“I can’t wait to surf in the World Tour Trials at Snapper Rocks next year and the whole series has been awesome to compete in,” he said.

However, Lane and Kimmins (who both qualify for the 2012 Quiksilver Pro Trials) weren’t the only competitors on the beach celebrating today, with 2010 ASP Australasia Junior Men’s Champion Mitch Crews (Currumbin, Qld) toppling the star-studded field to win the Chiko Sunshine Coast Pro presented by Coolum and Alex Surf.

Crews posted a combined two-wave heat total of 17.00 (out of a possible 20) in the final, proving too strong for Chris Friend (Alexandra Headland, Qld – 16.40), Nathan Hedge (Narrabeen, NSW – 14.60) and Dale Lovelock (Maroochydore, Qld – 12.70) who finished second to fourth respectively.
