THE BURLEIGH GROMS DID THE CLUB PROUD PLACING 4TH IN THE JR JUNIOR KIRRA TEAMS CHALLENGE. ALL THE LADS PUT IN WELL, A REAL TEAM EFFORT AND ALL THE TEAM INCLUDING RESERVES WERE ALL PART OF THE DAY. WELL DONE TO ALL THE MUMS AND DADS WHO CAME DOWN, AND WELL DONE TO TEAM MANAGER AND PHOTOGRAPHER CRAIG WHILLANS.

YOUNG LIAM O’BRIEN WAS OUR FIRST SURFER, 10 YEARS OLD AND HIS FIRST CONTEST OUTSIDE BURLEIGH. A GREAT EFFORT GETTING HIS 3RD PLACE, IT WAS DIFFICULT CONDITIONS FOR THE YOUNG FELLOW, LIKE 4 FOOT SHIFTING PEAKS CRUNCHING, AND AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PHOTOS HE REALLY HAD A GO. BIG FUTURE FOR LIAM IN THE PIPELINE.

JOSH HYLAND HAD A BIT OF A HARD TIME, PLACING 4TH, BUT THE KID HAS THE ABILITY BUT MAYBE A BIT MORE TRAINING WILL SEE HIM PERFORM FOR THE CLUB IN THE FUTURE

NEXT UP WAS GENO, A GREAT PERFORMANCE PICKING OUR FIRST WIN AND SETTING THE CLUB UP FOR THE ROLL THAT FOLLOWED. GENO ALSO GOT A PICTURE IN THE DAILY NEWS, AND AN INTERVIEW…. FOLLOWING THE FOOTSTEPS OF OUR OWN MEDIA TART CHAMP….

THEN WE REALLY TOOK WHEN HAMISH WHILLANS HIT THE WATER… HAMISH OPENED UP WITH THE HIGHEST WAVE SCORE OF THE EVNT WITH A 9.0 FOR 2 HUGE RE-ENTRIES, AND THEN BACKED IT UP WITH AN 8.3 TO SCORE THE HIGHEST 2 WAVE SCORE OF THE EVENT.

NEXT WAS THOMAS WOODS WHO SET THE BEACH ON FIRE OPENING UP WITH A NINE POINT RIDE WITH ONE OF THE BEST MANOUVRES OF THE EVENT. HE THEN BACKED IT UP WITH ANOTHER SIZZLING WAVE SCORING AN EIGHT POINT SEVEN, JUST PIPPING HAMISH FOR THE HIGHEST COMBINED SCORE FOR THE EVENT. HAMISH AND THOMAS WERE THE FORM SURFERS OF THE EVENT, A LEVEL ABOVE EVERYONE ELSE.

THEN IT WAS UP TO SAM ROBINSON TO BRING HOME THE BACON FOR THE CLUB. A TOUGH HEAT IN TESTING CONDITIONS SAW SAM PULL A SECOND PLACE AND DO WELL FOR THE CLUB.

THE  JUNORS REALLY OPENED THE EYES OF ALL THE OTHER CLUBS ON THE GOLD COAST,  PLACING FOURTH AFTER A COUNT BACK WITH SNAPPER ROCKS. CABARITA WON, ALLEY SECOND, SNAPPER THIRD, BURLEIGH FOURTH. A GREAT EFFORT FROM ALL INVOLVED AND A SPECIAL MENTION TO BYRON HOSKINGS AND JED DENISON, THE RESERVES WHO SHOWED REAL PASSION BACKING THE BOYS THE WHOLE WAY.
